Real ID required for domestic air travel may 7

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Hunters, anglers, outdoors enthusiasts and the general public are reminded that a federally compliant identification card will be required for domestic air travel beginning May 7, 2025.

An Arizona Travel ID, which is a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or identification card, is a convenient option for those who do not wish to carry their passport or have another federal ID option available when traveling domestically.

Getting the Travel ID is a quick and easy process:

  • Schedule an appointment on AZMVDNOW.gov, but plan ahead as appointments are booking up ahead of the deadline. Walk-ins are also welcome at MVD offices during normal business hours but may involve wait times.
  • For people who don’t have time during the week, many Authorized Third Parties are open on Saturdays. A listing of these locations is available at AZDOT.gov/MVD. There is a convenience fee to use an Authorized Third-Party location.

Documents needed when you arrive at the MVD or Third-Party office location include:

  • Birth certificate (original or certified copy) or current passport.
  • Social Security Number.
  • 2 documents proving your Arizona residency such as:
    – Utility or cellphone bill, bank or credit card statement or even your vehicle registration.
    – The above documents need to have your proper name and current address.
  • Be PHOTO READY!

The card is $25 and is good for 8 years. It will take about 10 days to arrive in the mail in a blank, white envelope. More than 2.67 million Arizona Travel IDs have been issued thus far.

A full list of qualifying documents is available at azdot.gov/TravelID.
